backlinks are any links that point back to your website/store. links are still one of the most important ranking factors so if you want to help your website seo, you want to build many quality inbound links. as far as "use," search engines use links to see how important your website is. it is like a "vote" for your website.

There are multiple factors:

  1. Compare the number of Root domains
  2. The quality of back-links might be poor
  3. Compare the number of No Follow links - No follow links does not pass page rank
  4. The last is number of links considered by Google. There are hundreds of links which Google does not count for ranking but because of those poor quality links the site will rank lower.

It seems that backlinks are the bain of all new websites. You need them to rank, but you can't do anything to game the system. The old adege is that quality will eventually bring in links, but how does someone small and just getting started compete with well established sites?

hi

Back links can not transmit "link juice"

To explain what a "link juice"

For example, a meta tag <title> in the page http://test.com/test.html - has a value: This is test page

If there is a link to a page with content <a href="http://test.com/test.html"> This is test page </ a>

The value enclosed in a tag <a> is the "link juice"

Search engines give more weight to the parameter

Regards

A link from an external page (with different domain or server) that refers to your website are know as back links in seo. They are also called incoming links.

Back links tell search engines like Google, yahoo and bing how popular your website is. All anchor texts are one of the form back links.

Natural back links are more valuable to search engines than reciprocal links, as they are harder to get.

Backlinks are the links which we get from some other site to our site. They increase the traffic on our site and so help to increase the ranking of our site. Backlinks should be natural for example, if your site is on  SEO then you should provide your link on Seo site only not on any other site like on health or fashion site as these are counted as artificial links and are not good from SEO point of view.

@vekia

It depends upon the type of backlinks

if you have tons of backlinks winch have no authoriy and relevance then it's useless and will consider as spam and will trigger google's spam detection and will penalize you.

on the other hand if you have few backlinks lets say 10 or 15 backlinks but all of them are from high authority sites and are relevant < relevant = from your niche >, then it will really help your site to rank in your niche category and will pass the link juice from their site.

As " Mitrocops " mentioned that backlinks doesn't pass link juice. Well it's wrong. Link does pass juice and and it's the one of the most fundamental feature of links. However, we can also block the link juice by just adding the " rel=nofollow "tag inside the link tag.

Also if you guys are going to link building

then avoid these tactics such as directory submission, article submission, article spinning, social bookmarking, pr marketing, and other types of black hat tactics as these tactics used to work in past days. I myself used to these tactics and the best was .edu and .gov link building. Infact i  have gotten a pr 7 .edu dofollow link from this tactic and at that time my site used to rank 1st in very competitive and broad keywords. But when google rolled out some updates to fight spam then my site got penalized and all rankings dropped dramatically. So i removed all bad links , did some site audit. made some niche helpful contents and resubmitted reconsideration request twice . and my manual spam action was revoked.

Doing seo is whole new thing. Now you have to great contents, which can make social buzz, making your site blazing fast and mobile compatible.

and for link building you should see this post from Moz.

and http://moz.com/blog/ranking-factors-2013

I guess i helped you guys little by sharing my little knowledge.

Hope you found it helpful and also sorry for my broken english hehe.

Have a great time and seo reading.

the hardest part of starting an eCommerce site is not the design or the script (for instance Prestashop made life easier for all of us) but is "spreading the word".

we can pay adwords a small fortune to get some clients, or try to build links to our site.

the easier is to pay, is available right away, just needs cash.

the hardest is to create links (backlinks) to us. which can be anything from guest posts, articles, social media,...

just don't forget, most people use google for searches nowadays and that google was founded on the backlink rating strategy. they still haven't paid that much atenction to social media as opposed to backlinks.

Well I have exact 15 backlinks on my page, PR between 2 and 3, BUT I'm always on first links, first page of google search (no special goods - pet store). The best way to have quality on your site is to use social media and real human recommendations on your own site (reputation). Also the content of your site is a major part of SEO (use keywords, or keywords your project). I don't use paid services. I sell in ebay and Amazon (most of my customers). Add an own blog or discussion option for ex. on facebook to your project. That is all you can do to maintain your site for a long time on first google search places.
