[SOLVED] Creating a Dev site from a live site

Hi I have a prestashop 1.4.9 site up and running. I would like to make some changes but I want to do this on a Dev Site first, how can I take a mirror of the site and put it on a sub domain, I have done some goggling but not found a guide.

create a subdomain or folder keep install prestashop upload theme and mudules..

Well before installing a dev site, I preconise to work on a local copy (means working on his own pc) :

- Download/extract your shop (folder prestashop) i.e. via Filezilla

- Save your database (You can do it directly in prestashop backoffice)

- Then create your local environment (you can try wamp for window, lammp for linux & mamp for mac)

- Make change on local

- When you satisfied create your dev environment for online test

upload all ur prestashop from root to sub directory were u want to install go to config folder delete settings.inc.php

 

upload a install folder from original prestashop done run install

Cheers for the advice, I have just move the site to a test site not on the same domain. Just realised that it was a DNS issue with the sub domain. Sometimes you can't see the wood through the trees when your trying to get things done in a hurry. I was thinking I was going mad as it was just not working.

jitenx, I think to complete the story, you should copy the database contents to the newly created database and change the domain name in it as well, right?
