How to set my shop not to process shipping & payments for international transactions

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I am new to prestashop and am using to it to setup my new online store. So far I am quote impressed by it.

We mainly just sell locally to Australia, however we still don't want to competlly shoe away international shoppers. However with fluctuating postage charges it is not feasable to keep all possible combiations up to date at this point in time. As we process more international orders we can negatuate fixed charges, however this is not possible at this point in time.

What I would like to do is to have is when a customer enters a country other than Australia (I was thinking I will create a zone called "rest of the world") it will send us the order as a "to be confirmed quote" so we can then workout postage charges manually to add to the quote, the customer could then at this point return to the saved cart and complete payment.

Does anyone have any ideas on moudles either paid or free that could help me achrieve this? or does anyone have any working examples of something similiar?

Hi El,

I don't wish to setup automatic processing of international orders yet, I want to manually quote customers for international shipping once they submit a cart.

The main reason for this is there are carriers that can offer me discounted international shipping depending on the number of orders I send in a single week, the pricing will vary from location to location and week to week and one of them does not have an API.

So basically I want prestashop to pause any carts where the zone is "rest of the world" so I can then find the cheapest postage charge for the client and adjust their order manually, after which point they can choose to either abandan the cart or finish processing the order and pay.

Hi DH42, I appreciate that it may put people off, But don't you think people will be put off even more if there is only an option to ship to Australia and they had to open up their email to enquire about postage charges? I know that would be a deal breaker for me personally, however if the shop made the process as painless as possible by saving my cart and got back to me in a reasonable timeframe I may just consider forgiving them. My only other option would be to quote very high worst case shipping charges, but this is only going to put people off anyway (damn Australia and our ridiculous international shipping charges).

Our products are custom made and not for sale anywhere else :)

Thanks for the links EL, unfortunately those modules are for a separate button, I need something that works from the checkout page. I suppose all it really needs to be able to do is pause the cart and display the user a message, I can manually inform the user of charges etc.

I think you would incure more charge backs trying to charge accounts twice. People might bail after hearing the shipping cost then when you refund them, it is going to end up raising your merchant rate.

What are you shipping, is it something that needs to be freighted? What kinds of products do you sell?

Hi Dh42,

No I don't want the customer to pay for the item until I have provided them with the postage charge, so basically they select their items, enter in there address, because they have selected a country other than Australia prestashop pauses their order here and displays them a message. they will not see the payment page. Hence no charge backs.

We are selling T-Shirts, unforuntly companys like DHL and UPS who have nice API's and moudles charge around $50 to send a single T-Shirt overseas from Australia unless you have high sales volumes.

I have been giving this some more thought, In theory I have a way it may work, jjust wondering if anyone has any inpt or ideas to add.

I can create a corriar called "International post on applicatoin" and set the value to $0 (this will be limited to "rest of the world" only), - then though CSS see if I can find a way to change the word Free! to something like POA only for this one postage option.

Now this next bit would only work in thorey if I could limit payment moudles to zones and if I could find suitable moudle that could either produce a quote rather than process payment or simply pause the cart, perhaps even a maunaul payment module modfied like the direct depoist one may work.

Incase there is anyone else interested I will post back with any finding I have.

Hi,

I'm in the same basket here. I want to allow shipping within my own country without any restrictions. But we also do sell overseas, so when it comes to international customers I want them to be able to register their addresses and proceed to checkout, but only give them an option to request for shipping quote instead of going through and paying for the goods. This makes total sense to me as we sell items bulk and people can choose how many Sq.M. of fabric for example + small accessory items they buy, going higher will not only increase weight but also volume and carriers charge by weight as well as volume and it is very hard to make prestashop workout international pricing.

So I'm after a way of implementing Request SHhipping Quote if country is different, I agree that I can create carrier and only allow it to service those countries, but it can't be free shipping and needs to be swapped for Request Shipping Quote.

Any help is appreciated.
