Multishop second domain - how to cname it?

Recommended Posts

I want to activate the Multishop (in fact, that is done :-) )

But now I encounter some problems with a second store on a different domain name.

I cannot point it to my current domain, because it is an active domain (and not a parked one)

Redirect didn't work either, 'cause it changes to my current domain before it can activate the multishop thing.

So upon reading all possible (and mostly not very clear) documentation, i presume that I have to cname my second domain to my first domain.

But I feel a bit insecure. I tried to read some supplemental documentation on cname but I'm not 100% sure of doing it right.

So perhaps someone here can take a look at my dns records and tell me what I should change.

This is the dns for my second domain:

babydragers.be. A 159.253.7.230

cp A 159.253.7.230

ftp A 159.253.7.230

localhost A 127.0.0.1

mail A 159.253.7.230

pop A 159.253.7.230

smtp A 159.253.7.230

www A 159.253.7.230

babydragers.be. NS ns215.axc.nl.

babydragers.be. NS ns216.axc.nl.

mail MX 10

babydragers.be. TXT "v=spf1 a mx ip4:159.253.7.230 ~all"

I presume I have to change the first line from A to cname, but can I just add my first domain instead of the IP? ( so something like babydragers.be. cname anderland.be. )

Do I need to cname the www as well?

And perhaps the most important question ;-) , will multishop work with a cname?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Changing the host record (A) in DNS to a CNAME record pointing to your first domain hostname is correct.

But that's not all, the server's configuration needs a change as well to accept the hostname for your second domain.

a virtual host needs to be created in order for the server to know it needs to redirect all request for your second domain to the webspace wich is the same as your first domain's webspace.

what is your hosing control panel? Typically one does this depending on hosting panel. cpanel - park to main domain plesk - alias to main domain shared (like godaddy) - point domain name to main domains root files

I have DirectAdmin, neither pointer or redirect works.

I presume the virtual host is something the hoster itself has to add to the server? So it seems I cannot make it work on my own.

if you have access to your server files you can make the changes to the httpd.conf yourself, but it would be best to contact your hosting provider for help...i.e. alias

I know I've had customers modify their dns for our mutlishop 1.4 module but I never got the details on how they accomplished that...you may be better served looking on the forum of your particular control panel for help in how to accomplish this.

Hmm, I purchased a new domain and parked it and add a pointer to the main shop and it still doesn't work :-(

So I presume it is a Prestashop problem

Edit:

Apparently it can take up to 3 days before a pointer works <_< so I'll be patient and hope it works in a couple of days

I am slightly positive that I may have found a way to get the multishop working, but I will have to test to make sure everything is working.

The pointer is still not working, so what did I do: copy all the prestashop files and place them in the (root) directory of my second domain name and it worked.

What do you mean with place the files in the (root) directory of your second domain. Multishop and CNAME principle should be that both domains point to the same (root) directory using named virtual host.
