Product combinations generator - Why ?

Hello All,

A quick question re Product combinations generator , I am about to setup shop for a friend.
The products have lots of options for example Colour1 (choice of 36 colours) , Colour2 (choice of 36 colours), size, shape, quantity etc - no problem I thought so I'll use the Product combinations generator , for one product with the above options though - it creates hundreds of 'products' , I need to set this up for 35 other products , so the end result will be thousands and thousands of 'products'

My question is -
1. Will this put a strain on the database with all these options
2. Other carts seem to handle the various options/attibutes differently - why is that ? , or do they calaulate it the same way - but not display it , eg I previously looked at Actinic cart - but decided on Prestashop , but actinic handled options differently.

(or am I panicking over nothing - all opinions welcome please)
