Attributes and Values vs. Features

Recommended Posts

Hello

I would like to attach a designer and collection to many of my products.

The question is, should i do this with "Attributes and Values" or "Features"? - and what is the difference?

Also, is it possible to get a separate URL to an attribute and value or feature, where i can write a text about the designer/ collection, just like with manufacturers?

If you would recommend me to attach a designer and collection without attributes and values or features, then please tell me.

Thanks in advance.

If the designer is rather a description of the product and not something you can choose I would think about using product tags.

But then it would not show in the layered navigation block, and i would not be able to get a separate URL.

You could place a tag cloud in your sidebar with the names of the designers. If somebody clicks on a designer tag they will see all products of this designer. The advantage of a tag cloud is that you can see it on every page. As to my experience there are problems showing custom features in the layered navigation module. Personally I would prefer tags over the layered navigation module.

It would just be perfect with a text about the designer and to show which designer who designed the product at the product page.

Can someone tell me what the difference is between Attributes and values / Features?

With Attributes you have one product (and product id's) that has many variations that are called "combinations". In your standard layout it will only be shown once.Typical use is when you sell clothes in different sizes and you offer the customer the option to use a dropdown to select the size.

With Features you have many different products and product id's and you provide each of them with a value for a certain variable. Designers and size would be good examples. PS provides standard features like length and weight.

Color is an issue where you could use both. The advantage of attributes would be that the customer sees all the variations on one page (you can link different images to different combinations). The advantage of features would be that you could show the different colors on your category pages. Managing combinations can also be a bit more clumsy as its PS interface is not very user friendly.

Thank you very much for your answer!

Can you tell me if it is possible to get a URL with text for a feature and its values and what the product feature URL and meta title does?
