How To Reduce The Number of DOM Elements? + Prize

Hi Guys,

 

I have two questions, please lend a second of your time to help me out if you can. I'd be very grateful.

 

1) Can someone explain to me, in plain english, what DOM elements are?

2) How do you reduce the number of DOM elements on your webshop?

 

I'm using PS 1.5.4.1 on www.verwarmingsshop.be and i have about 1746 DOM elements on my page which i believe slows my website down. I've read that the Yahoo! Home page has under 700 DOM elements and that's one heck of a busy page :-).

You need to completely rebuild theme structure, use less div's etc. But then You will have less CSS styling options specially in older browsers. So just treat that Yslow message as a tip, not as rule.
