New category pages redirect to 404

I created new category and subcategory pages on a new Prestashop 1.5.4 instance, but they keep redirecting to a 404 page, the apache log clearly mentions a 302 redirect to the page not found.

 

I check and rechecked the Automatically redirect to the canonical URL and the Disable apache multiviews to test, but nothing happens. The .htaccess is correctly generated.

 

The strange thing is that the default categories, like iPod, which come with the system all correctly work. Comparing mine to the default once showed no difference.

 

What am I doing wrong.
