parent category shows no products

I have a problem (1.5.4) where the parent category says,"no products in this category". Of course it doesn't, all the products are in the subcategories.

 

Any one know the easy way to check this and just not display the product count if there are no products?

I would also like to know this. It would be nice if it just displayed all of the products within the sub categories because I can then apply a layered navigation filter to just filter them.

 

So maybe I will just add all products of sub categories to the parent category.
