Backward Compatibilty

I upgraded my paypal module to v3.5.1 and now I get a warning on the module page

• PayPal - In order to use the module you need to install the backward compatibility.
  

I've done a search and all I can find is that this backward compatibility has broken peoples themes.

 

When I go through the shopping cart it takes me to paypal just fine and asks me to sign in. So do I really need this backward compatibility, can I ignore it or is there something I am missing?

I've had a customer checkout fine with paypal today, so as far as functionality goes it seems I don't need it. If anything goes wrong later down the line, i'll try it.
