Cannot resize sub category Images

Hello

 

I am unable to resize the pictures through preference - images-generate thumbs etc

 

I have tried everything but images do not get resized the way I want them to

their width is more and height is less in fact I want the opposite

I need width to be less and height to be more

but due to the less width and more height the uploaded pictures

have streched and shrunk
