Prestashop Multistore with two domains - SEO

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have a Prestashop 1.5.3.1, I installed and configured the multistore with two different domains, but I have two problems:

A) The first problem is that both domains are in two languages; Spanish and Portuguese:

domain1 = spanish and portuguese

domain2 = spanish and portuguese

And I would like to have:

domain1 - only Spanish

domain2 - only portuguese

Is it possible?

B) The second problem is the Google indexing, before the multishop the domain1 was in the first page of google and now is not indexed correctly, the visitors decreased a 60%. Is it possible there is an error with the sitemap? When I checked it, I have the following result:

domain1/es/1-categoryA/1-productA ( URL in spanish )

domain1/pt/1-categoryA/1-productA (URL in spanish )

domain1/pt/1-categoreA/1-producteA (URL in portuguese)

Any idea?

Thanks

1. back office-->localization-->localizaton

select the multishop configuraiton for the shop you want to work with

set the default language for that shop

You could then (so you do not need to modify anything), simply disable your front office language selector.

Personally I would leave the language selector, you site is now defaulting to the default language and if the customer want to change the language they still can.

2. You did not tell us your URL's. It's important to note that if you use two or more gTLD's (.coms for example) then you could (probably will be) penalized for duplicate content.

IMHO, the best way to configure more than one domain with same content is to use ccTLD (country code) type domain names, for example anyurl.fr for France.

Hi

Thanks for the answer, I made the proces of the back office - localization and I disable the module of selecting language, but google check the domains and found two languages and two url for the same product, one in Spanish and the other in Portuguese. The result is 4 url ( 2 Spanish - 2 Portuguese ).

I think the problem is the duplicate content, both webs have the same url product but with different domain, this is the reason that I would like to have one language for one domain.

My first domain is a Spanish name but with .com. Ex: libro.com ( book in Spanish )

The second domains is a Portuguese name but with .com Ex: livro.com ( book in Portuguese )

If I can have the Spanish domain only in Spanish and the Portuguese domain only in Portuguese I think I will solve the problem, but I don't know how to do this.

Yes, I re-run the sitemap, but every domains has two languages and the sitemap has two languages, I don't know to delete one languaye. I can do this by "hand" but is a lot of jo.

yes, this is a problem with sitemap generator. what is the version of the sitemap module? I will take a look to see if I can modify it for you to only generate the language of the domain. It may be Monday or Tuesday before I can look at this.

Hi

I installed the new version of the sitemap and it makes two sitemap, one in Spanish and the other one in Portuguese. I solved one of the problems.

But now I have another question, the sitemap of the second shop (domainB), where it is saved? Because I don't have a hosting, I only registered a domain.

Thanks

El - Your answer for #2 implies that I cannot have multiple websites displaying a product and have multistore change the content (e.g. description) based on which website the product is displayed on.  Is this correct?  Example, if I am selling a hammer on site abc.com with a description "wood handled hammer" I can't have a second description "oak handled hammer" listed to only be displayed on def.com.

Hi Andy, I suppose in your scenario that would work but then they are not really sharing product.  You may want to think up a couple levels, i.e. two gTLD's, with page titles, category titles and so on and so forth that may cause duplicate content issues.  Google tells us not to use more than one gTLD, so use at your own risk. :)
