markjl
I am reticent about upgrading because I'm concerned that my custom theme may not be compatible. I suppose I will have to do a trial upgrade first and then roll back if it doesn't work out. If I do a complete server backup and database backup, I should be ok .... right? Bill Dalton
Yes. But you could also make a working copy of your web site and try the upgrade on the copy. Most 1.4 themes will not work with 1.5.
bellini13
Your 1.4 theme will not work in v1.5, there is no reason to test it. If you must upgrade to v1.5, locate a new theme first, or hire a professional to upgrade your custom theme.

bellini13
luck has little to do with it, you likely just do not realize what issues you have
markjl
Well I'm looking at the extra modules I use. As for the theme, if it doesn't work, perhaps I can at least save the modified CSS

benjamin utterback
Yes. But you could also make a working copy of your web site and try the upgrade on the copy. Most 1.4 themes will not work with 1.5. That is the best advice for any upgrades to your store. This minimizes the downtime on your live store and allows you to not only investigate the errors beforehand, but solve them at the source before you upgrade.
