naturalp
So after installing prestashop, and trying it out I really liked it so I installed it for a friend for her small business and off she went! - until her first order came in and only one attribute line was showing on the order... I posted a topic on the forum and was told to use the combination generator - and this would work and of course it didn't then someone else contacted me and offered to help. After we both looked at along with my friend who's site it was - we found that there is a huge limitation or impass in the way the combination generator works. Why? - well if you want to generate a combination for say a choice of different colours for a product - say 10 - well prestashop can do this. If you decide that you want the customer to be able to choose two colours from 2 lists of 10 then it can just do this...but if you then want the customer to be able to choose 3 colours , each from a list of 10 - then it never finishes generating the combination. Not only that but when an order is placed because the generation has never finished (because the combination is too big) then the order will never show the full list of colours chosen. So lets run through this again - 3 simple drop-down lists of 10 colours each = disaster. No where does it say that prestashop has such a limitation or a fundamental flaw??. and looking through the posts on this forum several people have tried to raise this I think but their posts have just fallen on deaf ears. I hope someone will say - hey yes you can do this!- as my friend will be very relieved. In the meantime has anyone any ideas of a workaround ???- she doesn't have the money to pay for a module to do this and its a real shame that there isn't a switch to change from combination generator to normal drop-down lists..... naturalp
So that's it - no replies, suggestions or solutions so it really does not work then. So may I just say that if you are considering Prestashop remember that if you want multiple choices for your products, it might not work with prestashop. Their very clever combination generator has a big flaw which they must know about but which they won't admit to! They have simply stuck with their 're-invention of the wheel' because they started with it! - a choice would have been good, or something in the documentation to say 'whoa don't use this if you want to do this' but no! nothing... just the old' emperors new clothes stuff!' Thanks so much !!
