Google Site Description

Recommended Posts

This is going to sound like the dumbest question ever.......but....I really cant work it out!!! I'm by no means a programmer or even half good....trial and error is my usual course of action but I dunno where to start here.

Right............where on PS do I write a short description about our store (meta tags right?!???)?

Currently we do not have any writing on our homepage (and don't plan to) therefore Google has picked up the cart details and footer items.

What am I haven't I done here. I've been looking for quite a few days now but just cant seem to get my head round it.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello again. Sorry to bring this one back up!

I have changed all my meta title and description but google is still showing up the same results. It seems to be finding info on the page rather than the header?

Does anyone know enough about search engines and what they look for to assist me on this?

Thank you.

Hi ME-Commerce

I subscriped to Webmaster Tools when I first submitted my site for indexing.

It says that it was last accessed on the 28th May 2008.

I just dont understand what is happening.

Yeah if you could get back to me when you have a bit more time I will be very greatful.

Regards,

Stu

Hi JSF,

Search engines now a days don't just look at the keywords and descriptions specified in meta tags,

but at the amount of keywords used in the pages content.

You can try rewriting your product descriptions etc, using as many relevant keywords as possible.

Its better to write your own descriptions, as search engines love unique content instead of the standard product descriptions released by manufacturers and suppliers which can be found on hundreds of webshops.

Inside Google Webmasters, you can set the Crawl rate to High instead of Normal, this will make Google visit and crawl your website more often.

More info about writing SEO friendly content; http://www.koranga.com/writing-seo-content.html

Or search Google: http://www.google.nl/search?q=Writing+SEO+Friendly+content

Good luck!

Thanks for your time on this. All of our descriptions have been generated by us so should be as unique as you can get.

Ive just changed my crawl rate to "Faster" as it said that googlebot was litmiting itself. I will have to see what happens.

Its nothing major I suppose but just a niggling problem. Fingers crossed it sorts itself out.

One more question though. When it mentions position on search queries, does #1 = Page one or the first site listed under sponsored?
