eurochop
I sell on ebay and now I'm curious about opening up a prestashop. Pic hosting takes up about 12GB bandwidth monthly at the moment. I wonder if I start up a prestashop with 10K+ unique items, if I would need to upgrade to dedicated hosting to have the site running fast enough. Or will shared hosting be able to handle it? NemoPS
That depends on the hosting. Some, like arvixe or vidahost, offer good soluytions for shared plans. Some others offer bad solutions even for dedicated servers. In the end, word of mouth is the king (queen? ) in these cases. I would suggest arvixe, but have a look around and read customers feedback before taking any decision
eurochop
I'm on hostmonster shared hosting, which boasts "unlimited" (laugh) bandwidth and space. With that amount of traffic and SKUs, should I get shared, VPS, or dedicated on Arvixe?
suenda
I would strongly recommend at least a VPS from any decent host. However, note that when you run your own server, you also need to take care of its administration. If you have dont have the required skills, stick to some expensive shared hosting. vekia
in my opinion the best choice is VPS server. You can configure it exactly as you want. For now you don't need own dedicated server.
nadie
I have worked with shared hosting, vps and dedicated. Invest it in a good vps or a dedicated. When a hosting, says the word "unlimited" is totally false. Sorry for my English.

I totally agree with Nadie, when hosting comapny sells "unlimited" packs of hosts / vps they probably "overselling" (see wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overselling)

Dolke
I just found out about this topic and it seems that I'm on the crossroad my self. I importing my 2000+ products via CSV file and it first I thought issue was in the prestashop, but after chating with hosting support, it seems that prestashop and some of its features like CSV import doesn't work in the shared hosing environment due to some server limitations, in this case request timeout limit. I host at Hostgator.com and I have reseller account which is in the shared hosting environment. Now Im going to try their VPS, level 3, and hope that this environment will fix some of the issues with import feature. What do you say people? rturner
I have a vps at Hostgator (level 5) and am extremely happy. Excellent performance, excellent support. I also found that with 2000 products, prestashop 1.4.10 is fastest for me. ( I'm using PS version 1.5+ for smaller shops.)
benjamin utterback
Hello all, I can second what most have said on this thread. Rarely do web stores need a dedicated server. VPS will do the job just fine.I suggest A2 Hosting.
