benwiggy
OK, next problem. Brand new install of 1.5.4. The first thing I do after installing is go to the Categories page, (in order to delete the dummy data), and I get a "Too many redirects" error. Every time. I haven't touched anything, I've literally just installed it. New database, new install: (however I have had trouble with Prestashop not working when I select the Categories page before in 1.4.) Is this a known issue? Secondly: is there a way to do an installation without adding the demonstration data? I wasn't offered any option that I could see. yaniv14
In version 1.5.4 that option was removed and instead you have a module (PrestaShop Cleaner) that does the same thing
benwiggy
Well, that may have worked, but I can't tell as I still can't get into my Categories Page!
yaniv14
Well.... I can tell you for sure its not a known issue, I've installed prestashop dozen of times (all latest versions). Are you installing localy or on a live server? Do you set the right permissions for file & folders? Apache? / Nginx? - rewrites/redirects issues? Did you install from prestashop site downloads or your server ready installation?
benwiggy
I'm installing on a server. I don't think it's a permissions, issue, otherwise it wouldn't affect JUST Categories, would it? PErmissions are generally 755, I think. I don't know what you mean about Apache or Nginx. I uploaded the files myself. I too have installed Prestashop many times, and there's always something wrong with it, whether I do it manually or through an scripted installer on my hosts website. I did get a warning about not being able to access external URLs or something when I installed, but it let me install anyway. I had to modify the installer slightly as there is a bug with PHP temp session folders or something. EDIT: A quick google for "Prestashop too many redirects" brings many pages, including this one: http://forge.prestashop.com/browse/PSCFV-5528 I'm not exactly sure what the fix is, but it's clear that there is something wrong with PS. yaniv14
I am sorry but I cannot help you because I never had those issue you have . I've installed Prestashop on XAMPP, WAMP Server, VPS with apache, VPS with Nginx, Shared host (Hostgator), Shared host (Justhost). And never encouter those issues. Good luck
benwiggy
I have found this thread http://www.prestasho...em-please-help/ that claims I need to modify the database directly with the following line of SQL: INSERT INTO `ps_category_shop` VALUES(1, IDshop, 0); where IDshop is the "number" of my shop. How do I know what the number of my shop is? The other suggested fix involves modifying php.ini, which some hosting companies don't let you do. yaniv14
Do you have access to your database (phpmyadmin)? If so, just look for table 'ps_category_shop'
benwiggy
Yes, I can see the table. There's a value id_shop of 1. (I figured it would be either 0 or 1.) I'll give that a try. EDIt: No, I get a "Duplicate Entry" error, suggesting that I don't need to do this. Anyone else got any thoughts? Is there somewhere where i can download newer builds? benwiggy
This is why I've stayed at version 1.3.4. I guess I'll stay there, as that mostly works.
yaniv14
I think you are giving up too soon, maybe all your problems coming from your host provider. try to install prestashop localy with wamp or xampp and play with it a bit, and see the different between 1.3.4 and 1.5.
benwiggy
There's no point in testing PS locally, I need to test it on my host -- whoever that might be. I can see the differences -- there are some good things, but just as many problems.
JodyOH
I have the exact same problem, under Seanic.net's Linux hosting. First time user/install of Prestashop 1.5.4.0, and still learning my way around the program. It appears I can do everything BUT access the categories section of the Catalog tab. I have tried three browsers (Chrome, IE, Opera)
JodyOH
You may want to talk to your webhosting team. For ours, it looks like there were some internal issues with 1.5. Our webhost suggests using the 1.4 install first, and then upgrading later. I'm in the process of doing that.
benjamin utterback
Hello, I have not come across this problem. The point of a localhost is to test what a standard installation would act like. I would second Jody's point and contact your WebHost. It is not something "internal" in the software, or else it would act like that across many servers. Instead, there is something internal on only a few servers that is causing this.
