Moving 1.5.2 products to clean 1.5.4 install, advice needed

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

We are currently on 1.5.2 and it is working pretty good but it was our first install and there are some tests etc that are hard to clean out and I would like to start over with a fresh 1.5.4 installation migrating our products and then applying the theme and modules from zero again.

This is what I have done:

1. I have setup a subdomain at test.myshop.com and installed Prestashop 1.5.4 there. It seems ok.

Now what I would like to do:

2. I would simply like to transfer my product catalog to the test site but not transfer other things. I am fully ok with my products showing up with the default Prestashop layout and nothing else. This way I will be able to apply our theme and config step by step, cleaning out old things we have done for testing and lost track of.

So, I see in Plesk that there is already an option to copy my live database to the database used in the test domain.

Question 1: Is this the way to clone the database to the test site. Will it override some settings in the test database so it will stop working?

Question 2: What other things do I need to copy to my test domain. I guess the product images are stored somewhere, is everything collected in the same place or do I need to copy multiple folders. I do not want to copy the entire 1.5.2 site, only the products.

Question 3: Anything else I need to keep in mind for the move of the products?

Many thanks

Anyone...

The only thing I need help with is:

How do I move my product catalog to another Prestashop installation. Is it enough to just copy the database and maybe change the name of the store after the copy or do I need to copy some folders as well from the "live" installation. I guess images etc.

I think you don't need to waist your time looking for the answer. Moving the database may cause errors and make migration too complicated. As for me, it's better to use migration service, like Cart2Cart. It can save your time, efforts and, moreover, nerves.

Good luck! :)
