vinatec
Hello Prestashop, I find you at least 2 times a week in my visitors log. Next to, you are giving me wrong visitor numbers, what do you want on my site? Answers welcome.. I don't have a big problem with it just wondering, why I always find 2 IP addresses associated to your company... 91.240.109.106 91.240.109.98 both connected to: Prestashop SA, France Do you have a tracker running, scanning/profiling all shops made with prestashop or why is that? Feel free to answer and/or just leave my site. -vin Edited April 16, 2013 by vinatec (see edit history)
vinatec
more coming.. whats wrong in France? everbody working on copying my shop or what? http://en.utrace.de/...=91.240.109.114 http://en.utrace.de/...y=91.240.109.77 as you can see I don't make up any of these IP addresses. So what the hell are you doing there? Explanations are not only welcome but required at some point. So please go ahead.. others: you don't feel observed by prestashop? or didn't notice any of these IP blocks in your stats listing, yet? also I can recommend the module: "Tracking visitors", directly allows to trace visitor origin, display referred url (partly the words given to the search engine are visible), more options. Dh42
Let me answer in what I know. When you install prestashop there is a check box that lets you send data to prestashop. If you used a script installer such as softocalus or similar more than likely it was checked yes. If you installed it yourself manually, more than likely you over looked it. But prestashop does make a couple call homes. Notice how it knows the new versions come out and also how that there are modules in your module section that are paid. Its not a malicious thing that is happening, what the main purpose is, is so they can have up to date stats. Like how many shops are currently active running prestashop. Things like that. I wouldn't worry if I were you.
totalfs
Well, it is worried actually. And in EU it's actually illegal to do it without clearly letting the owner know about this and giving the option to turn it off. I would welcome an answer from PrestaShop staff. Dh42
I will make sure someone sees it when they come in. But the check box was our opt out, you didn't opt out.
totalfs
Firstly like you said, if you use auto installer you have no option. Secondly, Software provider PrestaShop in this case is responsible to website owner and must give him an option to opt out. The website owner is rarely the IT guy who installed it. And it actually doesn't matter if the software is free or paid for. And it cannot be hidden in license terms either. It's a legal issue and if you are big company it might damage your reputation. Calling home when it comes to e-commerce is a big no no without full transparency of what data is send. Because of those laws people in Europe tend to use European software. As we feel more protected from the Big Brother syndrome.
Damien Metzger
Hello, Thank you for your message. We indeed have a bot, just like Google or any other engine, that check if you have an active PrestaShop store. As you can see in your logs, the bot does nothing else. If you want, i can remove your website from our list. Please give me the URL and I will do it immediatly. Regards,
vinatec
Hello, thank you for your answers. Maybe it would be a good idea to give your bot a static IP address, like it is right now it is just irritating and indeed worrying. Yes, I see the IP address only hit the frontpage, and visit times are below a minute, but without knowing what's happening there I just wanted to clarify things and asked in the forum. I don't think any home-calling for version checking should show up in any visitor stats. It would be everytime you enter BO and the shop does the version automatically in the background you get a visitor click.. Same with checking for modules, thats why we have a seperate frontpage and backoffice or not? To do things without customers notice and update/upgrade the shop (without firing the visitor numbers into the sky). So anyways I would like to opt-out of the monitoring (sent you a PM), you can raise your statistic +1 as we will stick to prestashop software for now. It is the best, customizable, free!, user and owner friendly shop system available right now. Thanks for developing it! cheers, -vin
totalfs
Bots are completely fine, and I'm happy with this approach. As long as there is no other info past over. Your bot is welcome to visit my shop at any time! Ha ha
