Some pre start of my project questions...

Recommended Posts

Hi to all,

In the next few days I need to chose platform for my future company website and eShop.

Accent is going to be on the eShop, where I would like to present and sell around 2000+ items (spare parts for home appliances).

Im writing you from Serbia, and this eShop will mostly point to domestic, Serbian market so It will be in Serbian language. Further development should include English version of the website as well.

I'm not experienced in PrestaShop. This would be my first project using this software.

Earlier I was always using Joomla, and I had some experience with Joomla+VirtueMart so that is my dilemma here.

I have some questions before I make my final pick:

1. When comparing these 2 mentioned platforms which is more powerful in the means of speed?

2. As I have over 2000 items is there a good automated mechanism for importing these items from some excel spreadsheet or CSV file?

3. Is there automated tool that can delete, modify or put some of the items out of stock. In other words, can I make all modifications in some excel file and then import that same file on to PrestaShop so all front end items are modified accordingly?

4. If I have 2 prizes of the same item, lets say one is retail and other one is wholesale prize, can I put them both on the front end at the same time and mark them differently visualy?

5. How much deep can subcategories of products go? What are the limits?

6. What are the way of payments supported and is there automated creation of invoices which are delivered on buyers email with all other order details?

Ty all for taking interest and time to review my questions.

you should consider installing prestashop with the demo products and play with it.

comparing virtumart to prestashop, prestashop has much more to offer, though joomla rules when you look at templates...(themes in PrestaShop).

I also suggest that after playing with a demo install, that you ask a single question per post (assuming you searched and could not find the answer)

welcome to ps

Ty for you replay Sir.

Most important question off all here is there automatic import tool from .xls or .csv files to PrestaShop db?

yes, it does have import capability, you can search (use google 'prestashop import virtumart' etc....I have never actually done a .csv import, but lots of post here on the forum have.

If you don't find a post with the information you need, then make sure to post a new thread....so that a community member with that expertise will see it.

1. Hosting has a lot to do with the Speed. You would need to make serious modifications to the Joomla site in order to for it to have remotely the amount of features and functionality as a standard PrestaShop. Joomla is not an Ecommerce software by trade. Making those modifications can severely hurt the speed of your store based on the integrity and compatibility of the added coding.

2. Answered in previous post

3. You can do this with CSV as well. However, if you are doing this many times, it's better to invest in a bulk/mass editor like Store Editor, http://addons.prestashop.com/en/administration-tools-prestashop-modules/2937-store-manager-for-prestashop.html

4. Yes, with some slight modifications to make it easier.

5. No limits

6. You can view our "Payment" Industry partners here, http://www.prestashop.com/en/industry-partners . Also, on our Addons store, we have other payment modules here. http://addons.prestashop.com/en/4-payments-gateways-prestashop-modules . Yes, Invoice is automatically made and E-mailed to the customer registered E-mail along with other relelvent order details.

Do these answer your questions. Use PrestaShop! :)

Ty all for the information provided, I really appreciate it.

What I was able to read on various websites and forums, that PS is oriented towards small or medium sized business. My web shop will have 2000+ items so I don't how is my future webshop classified? I doubt it can be in the small business category, maybe medium?

Also, For that much products and PS as my shopping cart engine do I need VPS or dedicated server to run the software smoothly or I can stay on the shared hosting at least for a few months?

My current Joomla website (without eShop) has around 400 unique visits per day so I guess I can expect around the same number of visitors on my PS website at least in the begging.

Ty in advance.

Dean

I have 2 important question to ask.

Does prestashop supports dufferent shopper groups so I can have multiple prices for lets say this way bigger and smaller buyers?

Also I would need my country curency which is not Euro nor dollar but Serbian dinar.

Im planing on buying this template http://www.templatemonster.com/prestashop-themes/43757.html so I wonder will I be able to implement it?

Good morning,

Prestashop does support different groups, so yes you can have different prices

I assume you can have Serbian Dinar, you just need the iso code/number, will the paymeny gateway accept

Why do you want to pay that amount for a template when prestashop is free

Morning to you to.

Ty for the useful information.

I know PS is free but most of the templates that suit my needs aren't. This one seems like the perfect fit. I like its layout very very much, but if you can suggest me something that is free and similar to this one I will certainly have a look.

Hi guys,

In general, what do you think of that template?

I just found out that If I choose free theme to start my web shop and impost some products, data, articles and so on, and If I later decide to switch to more elegant and feature richer payed theme I would need to start all over again, so basically I would need to import all from the scratch.

Is this true?
