IE issue on product page when choosing options

Recommended Posts

I'm experiencing a strange issue on my site when browsing on IE. Yes, I know yet another IE problem but I can't figure out what is wrong. I'm running PS 1.5.31 on Apache. The home, category and CMS pages load and look just fine. The product page initially also loads fine, but all products have options and when you click on ANY of them, the page loses the background and all content except for what is displayed on the product page. I have IE 9/Win 7 on my PC and have other people testing it under other versions with the same results.

I'm attaching screen shots of the page loaded fine and then once an option is clicked. It doesn't matter if it's a color or a drop down change, it does the same thing.

I have also tried to see what it looks like using various browswers on browsershots.com and they all look fine as loaded also. It's just when you click an option that the problem happens.

I purchased this theme from Presthemes which is supposed to be compatible with all versions of IE. I have requested support from them but after looking into it, they came back and said that since there are known issues with PS 1.5.31 and IE when not using the standard template that it is a PS issue and not their template so I am not getting anywhere with them. I've disabled every module running on the site and the issue still occurs. We have not done any heavy modification of the template files either. Just standard changes to colors and background images and even they are the exact same size. And please don't tell me to use the CCC compress engine because that is something I don't trust as I've used it on another site with horrible results.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as we're getting ready to launch and this is the only bug I have to squash to do that.

To be honest this line

Is a pile of BS. Id request a refund as the product is not sold for purpose. If it does not work in IE its the developers fault not the bloody software version.

Is the background set within the admin? Or did you upload it? Do you want to PM or post the URL here and I will take a look, I got some ideas but without looking at it I can't say if its one or the other.

Thank you coco that's what I thought too but I'm too far into this project to ask for a refund and start over. I apologize for not posting the URL as that would have helped. The background is set on the body tag in the CSS file and it's in the img folder. The URL is here:

http://75.98.175.59/

Any ideas you have to try and fix it I would be most grateful for.

Strange! I can't duplicate that problem browsing in i.e and I have no issues.

Does it only happen when you pick a colour? I've tried one 3 differnet machines 2 x mac and 1 x win7 in various browsers and it switches out fine and the background loads in just fine.

Do you have scripting or js eanbled in i.e ? Do you get the same in any other browser?

That large background image

EDIT

Id change the jpg to 65% quality and then save it as a progressive jpg, it would reduce the load time alot and would show in pixulated first and improve as it downloads rather than load in as 1 big file.

Just a thought

try removing the super man flying from the top of the page then try again in i.e ... I don't think it would have an effect but it could be the jq being funny (but i dont think its that i got to be honest)

No the animation is definitely not it. We just added that yesterday. We actually stopped working on it due to this problem but since we're trying to launch the site soon we finished it but it's definitely not the culprit.

The site is fine on FF and Chrome on my machine. Funny though you can't reproduce the error. What version of IE do you have? We had other people testing the site last weekend and no one mentioned the problem but the developer who did the animation could reproduce it on a test machine he has but not on his main one.

Thanks for the tip for the background image. I will try it out. I'm going to be using a CDN for the site once it's launched but we can't see the results until that happens.

Now that's the kind of feedback I'm looking for. We decided to not let it run until after the page loaded so that it didn't slow that down. I think some CSS optimization is definitely needed. These templates and modules all have their own files but there are so many of them loading that the whole site is slow for now. I also don't have caching enabled yet because our server is running php 5.2 for now. For some reason my company thought it would be a good idea if we got a VPS since our main server is windows and this site didn't work well on it. Well, they made me the server admin and so I had to set it all up myself. I scrambled to look for solutions that were free but allowed me to manage it like I was used to with CPanel so I found Kloxo with CentOS 5. Had I known what version it was running before I chose it I would have gone with something else. Now I'm afraid to upgrade anything and break the damn server before we launch this. I'm getting gray hairs fast with this project.

Thanks again for your help. I too am running ver 9 so I don't know. Maybe it's just my PC.

Yeah some of the css is just crazy, I ditch alot of it and compile it into one file. Even started to use minify css so many page calls ..

I tried i.e with debugging on and off and its still fine for me. So at a loss to what to advise code seems ok, few div errors and markup problems but nothing that would effect the change.

Its unmanged vps? sometimes the company (i.e who you lease / bought the vps) will upgrade the php version etc regardless if its managed or unmanged same as the cpanel
