Alterations will not save, (always goes back to previous setting)

If anyone can assist that would be great, whenever i try and alter anything in the configuration check list and then click SAVE, it is never saved and always goes back to the previous setting,

even in the maintenance tab if i enable my shop to go live and save the altered setting it always goes back to the previous setting. I hope you get the idea what of what i mean and thanks in anticipation for any help.

It's really weird. Have you tried turning errors on? Config/defines.inc.php set PS_MODE_DEV to true
