how can i make and instance of a module?

Hi, this is a very basic question, but all the docs Ive read I have not found a clear answer, my problem is that I want to know the way of make an instance of an installed module, when I see the template, I see the position (like right hook) and it has some modules assigned, for example, the CMS module can be there, and can be in the footer, but , I cant find a way to make that instance of the module and set it for example at the left hook... can somebody tell me the way of do this?

Its actually more difficult then you would think. when you open up the module.php file you can find the function that hooks the module, that is what you would have to change.
