Just getting started: 404 when attempting to Log-in as user

I've gotten my shop up and running to the point where my catalog has product associated with the correct categories and I've got my payment module installed. I tried going through to checkout as administrator (using my IP address while shop was disabled) and got through to PayPal, which was encouraging.

 

But how are users supposed to register? If I enable the shop briefly and come in from another IP, I get a 404 when I try to log in, and there is no "register" link showing.
