aboyd1991
Hey, I am in the middle of starting a business and thought having a website would allow me to look more professional, However the only theme I can use at the minute is the Default theme. I am running Prestashop 1.4.6 which I just installed via my hosting with 1&1 (Bad choice, I know) It could fine well be a problem on their end but seeing as it takes at least 24 hours to hear back from them, I thought I would try here first. When I try to install a theme using the Themeinstaller Module it comes up with "An error has occurred during the file copy. So I thought no problem I'll just upload it using an FTP client.a Using Filezilla I logged on and went to upload the Themes, Modules and whatever else is needed. Every file failed to upload, after spending a while attempting to upload them I noticed the File and Folder Permissions were set to 0555, I tried to change them to 0755 to allow me to write to the folder, and I got the Error; "550 CHMOD 755 themes: Operation not permitted" Any Ideas on how I can upload some themes to use? or anybody had the same problem as me? Any Solutions are welcome. Thanks Aaron.
vekia
you installed prestashop by uploading it to your ftp manually or via some installers vi hosting panel? (i don't know if any is available in 1&1 hosting panel)
aboyd1991
No, I didn't install it manually. I wish I did now, may not have had these problems. You get a choice of a few Scripts you can install automatically, Prestashop being the one I chose.
vekia
so, remove it via hosting admin panel and then download prestashop and upload & install it manually. This will help you in your case
aboyd1991
Yeah, I have just figured it out, Someone had the same problem with the Joomla CMS with 1&1. They contacted 1&1 and found out that the "applications" they provide are not full versions and don't let you write to them, so I couldn't even change my logo if I tried. Its uploading manually as I type this Thanks very much for the reply.

aboyd1991
There isn't a link specifically for Presta, but here is somebody who is having the same problem as me but with a different CMS http://forum.joomla....c.php?p=1865692 I just uninstalled the automatic version and uploaded it manually via FTP. and yeah I finished uploading it, going to sort it out tomorrow, it wouldnt let me upload anything via FTP while I had it installed the automatic way. Now I can upload what I want and change permissions Edited March 16, 2013 by aboyd1991 (see edit history)
vekia
so it works exactly as i said, the best thing in this case is to uninstall presta via hosting manager and upload & install it manually. aboyd1991 Can you check it?
