Categories Missing From Most Modules

Trying to configure Top Horizontal Menu 1.5. When I try to add my categories in the settings, there is nothing under the "Categories" entry.

 

Using v1.5.3 with multi-store. I can see and edit the categories in the category menu. Can navigate to them and they contain products.

 

I am also seeing this on other modules that look for categories.
