[Fyi]Softaculous - Module Problems After Install

Recommended Posts

This may be of use to others who have experienced Module errors when trying to get going following an install.

I had problems today after a fresh install - just for an example the PayPal module was not operational and when I tried to install it I got error messages:

2 errors

Error while extracting module (file may be corrupted).

module not found

At the foot of the page I have:

[PrestaShop] Fatal error in module Tools:

ZipArchive::extractTo() [ziparchive.extractto]: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid/gid is 788/785 is not allowed to access /home/tubbymou/public_html/modules/3aebc1918de96dafe0b18809fc10b9ad owned by uid/gid 99/99.

Now this was all a bit of a concern with a fresh install so started the investigation. Changed all the permissions in the Modules section (I've discovered that wrong write permissions causes a host of different problems so always worth trying that one first in my opinion!!)

Couldn't resolve the issue and as safe mode (and I've not managed to find out how to switch that off yet!!) is mentioned I sent an email off to my host who came back with:

"I have re-owned all of your modules to your user. When installing using the web front end they are prevented from being loaded as they are owned by the web server."

I'm not sure how significant it was but it took him about 3 minutes to respond with this answer and I don't know if it was this or that there was no PayPal module installed in my file system, I had to "borrow" one from a back-up, but anyhow now Paypal works - ok no logos show but it appears to work.

So if you've used a 3rd party loading system offered by your host and you have module errors then maybe worth giving your host a quick email rather than (as I did) assume it is something that you've done and wasting hours seeking an answer in the many many forums.

Maybe it helps someone!

Hi Brijesh

I was not suggesting that it was the fault of Softaculous, my use of your product was faultless, my server shows over 1000 installations carried out using your system with 90% 5-star feedback so it can't be bad.

More I was suggesting that if members found they had problems after using the system they should contact their service providers as it could be a problem with their settings. This may not be a worldwide issue as there is no previous mention of it on the forum but there is always a first eh?

I am sorry if you felt that I was criticising your company product this was absolutely never my intention, in fact I was not intending to criticise anyone at all, merely offering a possible solution to situations as we all do on the forums.

I have tried to look at your demo out of interest but I get Forbidden Access!! Maybe I have settings problems on my computer.

Best regards - Bob

Hi,

>>I am sorry if you felt that I was criticising your company product this was absolutely never my intention

Sir we did not mean that you were critisizing our product we just wanted to know what had caused the issue as we were not able to reproduce the error on our side.

The demo must be rebuilting at that time, it rebuilts every hour. It works fine now.
