Nils-H
I have a shop with a few combination products. Each combination have about 8-10 attributes, and each attribute can have 2-5 values. When generating the product, a few thousand products is generated. The problem is that this seems to slow down administering of products massively. Every "save" I do on any product (not only combinations )takes forever and only completes with a timeout. I have tried both with Prestashop 1.4.x and 1.5.x and the patterns seems to be the same. Using combinations make the server extremely slow. Can this be optimized somehow? It's really, really annoying to administer the webshop in it's current state. tomerg3
We have made a module specifically for sites that require a very large number of attribute per product. It changes the way combinations work (the structure you add them), and requires far less combinations than normal. You can read about it at http://www.presto-changeo.com/en/attribute-modules/34-attribute-wizard-pro.html (see the FAQ for a complete explanation of the differences). There is also a demo site with backoffice access, so you can make sure it fits your needs (as some features are not available anymore due to the combination change). Nils-H
Thanks for the tip. I guess that's one approach to solve the problem. But I'm suprised that combinations should cause that much stress on the application. Is it the database or the rendering that causes problems? Are there really no other options besides bypassing the feature completely?
Dh42
It actually causes a problem in most e-commerce programs. How many combinations are you ending up with for each product?
Aaron909
Came in this thread to suggest the Attribute Wizard Pro. I had the same issues as the op in the beginning. Small tasks turned out more frustrating than anything.
Nils-H
How many combinations are you ending up with for each product? I have maybe 6-8 combination products that end up with between 1000-3000 products each. Came in this thread to suggest the Attribute Wizard Pro. I had the same issues as the op in the beginning. Small tasks turned out more frustrating than anything. Guess I'll have to take a look at it although it costs some money...
Dh42
Being the out spoken member of the community I am, let me say this. Business costs money, if you expect to start and run a business with no money, expect about the same back in return. One another note, if you have 3k combos per product, you can pull that off with decent hosting without needing AWP. When I say decent hosting I am talking about a vps in the $40-$60 a month range. Nils-H
Being the out spoken member of the community I am, let me say this. Business costs money, if you expect to start and run a business with no money, expect about the same back in return. Obviously. I was just expecting this to work out of the box. The money is not the issue. Just the dissapointment of it not working as hoped. One another note, if you have 3k combos per product, you can pull that off with decent hosting without needing AWP. When I say decent hosting I am talking about a vps in the $40-$60 a month range. Thanks for pointing me in that direction. My hardware is getting quite old, and I hadn't considered checking the actual specs. It's an AMD 3700+ with only 1GB RAM it appears. That might contribute to the problem. I was intending to upgrade the server anyway, so I'll check if that solves the problem first.
Nils-H
Any suggestions to hardware configuration that should be sufficient for this scenario? Is it CPU or RAM that is the most demanding?
