Clarification on Installation Instructions!

Recommended Posts

The installation instructions for PrestaShop says

"6.While you have your FTP connected to your Web hosting server, make sure the following PrestaShop folders have ‘write’ permissions (also known as “CHMOD 777” – explanation of file permissions here) but do not apply these permissions recursively (to their subfolders): /config, /upload, /download, /tools/smarty/compile. Then make sure the following folders have ‘write’ permissions and apply these permissions recursively (to their subfolders): /img, /mails, /modules, /themes/prestashop/lang, /translations"

It's the last sentence that is not clear. Do you apply CHMOD 777 recursively to only the directories under /img, /mails, /modules, /themes/prestashop/lang, and /translations or do you include the files within those directories. You could convince yourself either way if you think about it long enough. What's the correct answer and how do we get the Wiki clarified as I've seen numerous threads on the site with similar confusion although I haven't seen a clear answer...

Thanks!

Sometime the WIKI is not clear enough.
But for the install you can see instruction on screen, it tell you exactly what to do:
# Write permissions on files and folders:
# /config
# /tools/smarty/compile
# /sitemap.xml

# Write permissions on folders and subfolders/recursively:
# /img
# /mails
# /modules
# /themes/prestashop/lang
# /translations
# /upload
# /download
