weezawoo
Sorry if I sound really stupid but I am wondering how it is free Can you just explain what I would need to do to get the website working? I want to create a store for my business so does this create a website for me to use or do I add it to an existing site? Also do I need to build it then pay for hosting? I have built a site with wix but find their ecommerce limiting. I would really appreciate some help to explain to me how I go about getting a shop Thank you
clayton29657
Hello weezawoo, Welcome to the forums. I am in no way a developer but I am an owner like yourself of using this software for my store. You will fist need to decide a domain name and who you want to host ( your server ) if you have a small site you can use what they call a shared server which is pretty cheap in cost then if it's a larger site and expect a high volumn of customers and a lot of data then you can get a VPS server or a dedicated server. Here is a link to show what the webhost must have on a server to run this software http://www.prestashop.com/en/system-requirements Then after you can either hire someone to help load the software who has the experience if that is needed. The software is free to the public but they make money on different modules that you can purchase to customize your shop which if you click on the addons link it will take you to that part of the site to show you the many options you can load into your shop. The software comes with many types of modules but when you get into the extras that really depends on what you're wanting to do. I hope this helps you in some way or another. Good Luck Clayton
weezawoo
Thank you for the reply! I want to do things myself but I need to understand them haha I have a domain name already but no host yet. I can't imagine it being a huge site it should be rather small. I need a nice looking site as my website but also with a good shop part, I use wix and the design is great but the shop isn't fantastic. I have a question about the options before they checkout. I make bespoke pet items including dog collars and need quite a few options for them and need to know how many presta shop allows or what I need to buy to get this? I fear it will be way too much for me purchase these extras. Ideally I need to have a box for neck size. Then a drop down menu for the type of dog collar, there are different options, flat, half check etc. Then would like some options for them to choose some extras but not limited to just one extra, for example adding an ID tag, a charm or metal buckles. But Ideally they should be able to add a charm and an ID tag if required. Is any of this possible? I am just trying to find the right software for me before I purchase or try anything as I do not have time to try every software available. Also how changeable are the templates? I love how I have designed my current site and love the drag and drop ability and being able to change everything I want, am I able to fo this or is it rather restricted? Many thanks Louisa
Carolina Custom Designs
Is any of this possible? Louisa Yes, it is possible. You can create various attributes with PS and then assign them to your product. Good luck with your new store. Marty Shue
weezawoo
Will I need to buy anything extra to be able to do anything like this though as I have not got the money to? I just tried shopify and loved it but the lowest package you have limited SKUs and I need a lot so they are no good to me.
PascalVG
Hi weezawoo, If you want to get a feeling for the software, see a little what comes standard etc, you can play with their demo site: http://www.prestashop.com/en/demo Note: I believe the data that you enter in the demo shop will be cleaned once a while so do only small things at the time and have fun exploring! N.B. Installation of prestashop is many times automated by a script provided by the domain host, so check out some good but not too expensive hosts and see if they have a script for installation available. Some things to check when selecting a provider: - Speed - guaraneed Uptime - (un)limited bandwidth, data traffic, - number of doman names, databases, you can run on your single subscription (you might want to start a second/third shop, you never know...) - backups & safety - hardware used by the host (up to date or not) Feel free to ask any question here. Any question you encounter is ok. Don't worry, we all once started like you :-) But please make separate posts for separate questions and put them in the right sub-forums, to get quick and to the point answers. Have fun! Pascal.
