Prestashop On Fasthost Vps

Hi, I recentley had a developer build a prestashop site, installed it on my Fashost VPS and had problems, conted fasthost who are not much use! The said I needed to change php.ini file settings to "memory_limit" to "64M" and alter the "file_max_upload_size" to "16M".

 

Did this and still not working, when I go to the site in my browser I get ths error

Im not sure but maybe change chmod for path cache/smarty/compile to 0777 ?

Fasthost mention that the highest chmod is 755, they won't except 777 it will just give a 500 error? I'll try it any way - thanks

Has anyone actually got a Prestashop to work with fasthost vps? Their customer support knows nothing much about getting this to work and I'm on the ressellers package Unbelievable.
