Paypal Module Not Found

I checked a box in the modules payment section of the back office to have paypal be default for US Dollars and now the module is not available as a payment method. When I find the paypal module to check for configuration it shows not installed. When I go to install the module I get this error message.

1. The module paypal you uploaded is not a module
   
2. module not found
   

Prior to this issue, which is the reason I tried checking the box in the payment setup area, I was not able to get paypal to work with credit cards. worked when using a paypal account but not credit cards and would lock up after trying to process a payment through paypal.

 

I am using prestashop 1.5.3.1. Very frustrated with the instability of prestashop and not getting the site up and running. Still also having problems with the Avatax module I will try to ask elsewhere.

 

Just about ready to give up on prestashop with not receiving assistance and spending hundreds of hours in the forums for answers then asking for help from prestashop and receiving none.
