Somebody Please Help! 1 Click Upgrade Upgrade From 1.4.5 To Anything Throws Ajax Error

My upgrade runs until it gets to upgrade database then it stops and gives:

This error occurs whether on my shared hosted site or on my local wamp server. I have tried each of the solutions I found in the forums but either I don't know what I am doing or they dont apply.

I asked my hosting company to look into this and they got me upgraded:

I investigated the case thoroughly and I found that during the failed upgrade the following error is being produced:

PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined method Tools::nl2br() in /home/skaggswo/public_html/modules/autoupgrade/db/Db.php on line 626

I checked line 626 of the aforementioned file and I found that the developers tried to use the PHP system function nl2br() as part of the Tools class, which is incorrect

I commented that line and in its place I added

Then the upgrade was successfully completed:

At this point I believe that you can safely disregard these warnings.

1.4.1 to 1.4.9 worked perfect with 1-click upgrade in xampp (after days with ajax/server error)
