How do I add a menu item which refers to a module configuration?

I've tried to follow the instruction manual. I want to add homeslider module configuration to catalog submenu and tried the following setting:

 

Name: Slide Show

class: homeslider

module: homeslider

icon: -

status: active

parent: catalog

 

And everytime I click on the link, the page goes blank. Why? Did I do something wrong?
