Paulw01
Hi there,If I setup an SSL certificate will it affect affect presta shop or do I need to change anything setup wise ?thanksPaul
Amish Gramish
Remember to get it set up as www.yourwebsite.com, because that's what people use the most, and it won't negatively effect PrestaShop at all.Setting it up as secure.yourwebsite.com might do something, but I'm not sure if it will or not.SSL will work just fine with the latest version of PrestaShop 1.1 and 1.2.I have it working perfectly on my site, (no logo) Downloads:www.nologodownloads.com(SSL is only activated after you go to My Cart or Account Information.)The only trouble I'm having is trying to get the "Secure Seal" showing up. Hoodgrown
Save yourself a headache and go for a "dedicated" certificate and stay far away from the "shared" ones and any host that forces you to use "their" dedicated certificate.
Paulw01
Hi there,So its not worth installing an ssl ? The other factor is I won't be processing card details via my site, paypal will be doing that for now. Best to steer clear then ?ThanksPaul
Hoodgrown
You're misunderstanding....YOU NEED TO HAVE AN SSL CERTIFICATE whether Paypal is handling all of your transactions or not...My site is handled by Paypal and I have a SSL cert running...Your conversions will suffer if customers do not see this when entering even data such as their mailing addresses, etc. What i was warning you to stay away from was "SHARED" SSL certificatesdo get a "DEDICATED" SSL certificate

lotusutol
you'll also need to 'enable SSL' in the back office under PReferences, but I think you figured that one out already
Amish Gramish
YOU NEED TO HAVE AN SSL CERTIFICATE whether Paypal is handling all of your transactions or not...My site is handled by Paypal and I have a SSL cert running...Your conversions will suffer if customers do not see this when entering even data such as their mailing addresses, etc. What i was warning you to stay away from was "SHARED" SSL certificatesdo get a "DEDICATED" SSL certificate I was wondering why I wasn't getting many sales, until I thought about it a couple weeks ago.I had over 50 people go to creating an account to purchase music (I can tell because the average cart size kept changing, among other things), but only two signed up for an account, and only one has actually purchased a CD.I realized it was the SSL after Google Checkout didn't work. (I couldn't figure out Google Checkout Sandbox so I couldn't test it, but I have it figured out now.)It took about a month to get about 50 people wanting to register to purchase music, but they didn't want to put in any data because it wasn't encrypted.Even though I thought it would be okay because they would only send their credit card data through Google and PayPal, I was dead wrong, because they don't want their phone number/address all across the internet. So, yeah, an SSL Certificate is an absolute must have!I have GoDaddy.com's Turbo SSL Certificate, and it is on sale for $12.99 right now (search in Google for ssl certificate and GoDaddy will have an ad on the right advertising a certificate for $12.99, and that's it).I am now having a second barrage of advertising, so I hope people will start purchasing music now that my website is secure. Paulw01
Hi all,Many thanks for your advice.I have just received my SSL certificate for dedicated ip etc.Am now following the 1st install instructions, it says I need to setup a folder on the server to copy certificates into. Can this be anywhere on my server or does it need to be somewhere specific? Instructions do not specify where to put folder, also make folder readable by root for private key ?thanksPaul

thehandlestudio
Yeah the a good host will normally sort this out for you, for our site the only thing i had to do was to pay for the certificate the rest was done for me by vidahost, there service is fantastic that is why have them in my signature. joesal
I am looking to do the same thing. I have set up Prestashop, but have added just one product until I get everything situated. I would like to use SSL for my site, and have inquired with GoDaddy as to whether they install it for me.I know for a fact that the GoDaddy SSL comes with a Dedicated IP, so I'm covered there. If GoDaddy does install the SSL, will Prestashop reconfigure itself when I enable SSL in Admin > Preferences? Or is more required on my part to get it going? Many thanks for your advice. jhnstcks
Had a dedicated SSL certificate on my last host for 7 months. Just changed hosts and decided not to go with SSL again, and my conversions have gone up since I moved.
