Sort categories alphabetically in Back Office

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have store with hundreds of alphabetically sorted categories, divided into 3 main categories. When I add a new category, it is automatically added to the bottom of the list. Using the little black arrows to properly place the latest addition is painfully slow. Is there a way to automatically alphabetize the category list?

Thanks.

The arrows under "Name" to sort the column does not work as expected.  My categories are uploaded via csv.  When I upload new categories they get added to the end of the category list.  While I can sort them using the arrows according to ID or Name, they essentially end up sorting according to the order in which they were uploaded - there is no difference whether I sort by ID or Name, ascending or descending - the results are identical.  I still need a solution to sort categories alphabetically.

I have the same problem  as BJC,  when i upload a csv file  with a new category, the category is sorted in the front office by ID number and not alphabetically so the last id entered goes to the end of the list.

in the back office  i can sort alphabetically no problem, but the order does not change in the front office.

i am using 1.5.5.0 latest version , the only way i can move the cat into the correct alphabetical position is by moving  the line manually up one by one. which takes for ever  as i have so many categories

id there any fix to this issue.

Hey guys! If there's really no way to do it, you can hover your mouse over the position column (with the up/down arrows) and you'll see the mouse turn into a selection icon. You can just click on the category you want and drag it up and down (as long as you don't move your mouse away from the position column such that there's no more selection icon). Hope you guys can understand what I mean by this. It's not the sure-fire way but beats clicking individually.

I don't know if my situation is the same. I can sort my Front Office Categories but not the Back Office. Look at my image. I added two categories and they were just added to the end of the list OUT of alphabetical order. These are my fist two categories added since my upgrade from 1.3 to 1.5.5

Is it operator error? I have cleared my cache and did a crtl-f5 and still nothing. It's not a big deal but would be nice to have them in order, as time goes on this will be messy this way.cat.jpg
