When and why is settings.inc.php being generated?

Hi everybody,

I have a custom made settings.inc.php, where I added some IF...ELSE statement to set different DB login for dev and live servers (using the same file on both).

The problem is, that sometime when I do something in the admin panel (not sure what), this file is being regenerated by Presta, and going back to default.

I would like to prevent that.

Does somebody know:
1) Which action in the admin panel regenerates settings.inc.php
2) Why is it doing it?
3) Can I make it read only?
