Moving from Cubecart to Presta - how to do it best?

Hello,

 

I'd like to change from Cubecart to Presta and would like to know how to do this best: is it possible to install Prestashop on my server (together with my old Cubecartshop) but not going online yet in order to copy my product descriptions etc. from Cube to presta and then remove Cubecart and go online with Presta? Where exactly do I upload Presta to? When everything is ready can I just move Presta from its interims location to the location cubecart is at at the moment (in order not to have to change internet address etc.)? Is there a way to upload Presta to a location where the final address goes without this terrible /index.php?

 

I hope my post is not too confusing and somebody can help me.
