Everything seems perfect, but I can't get the theme to display/work correctly

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have a store that has never really been live but has lots of products, pictures and prices on it. The owners finally decided to get it online and I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade it to the latest version before it was used.

It was running a 1.4.1 and I used the automatic updater. I came across a few errors but after deleting the prestashop cache and re-installing some modules the back end seemed to be quite running quite beautifully - and still is.

However from the start the default theme didn't display correctly, and neither did the custom theme I just purchased. I deleted the default theme and went to re-install it but can't find it anywhere.

Does anyone have a clue as to why the display is so messed up and how to fix it. The site is http://thefullpantry.com.au

When I say messed up I mean the menu bar is missing, the drop down menus are in the wrong place, the search bar floats in the middle of no-where etc.

Thanks so much for any help, or just reading this far, I appreciate it!

Daniel

P.S - links, adding to cart and checkout all seem fine. Just the format is stuffed. This is what the current theme SHOULD look like (ignoring logos and custom colour) http://www.themespresta.net/images/pres3b_home.jpg

Hi Daniel, in your place I would try to download a clean PS version (I suppose it will be 1.5.3 if you say you upgraded to the latest version) and copy the default theme folder - you will probably have to change the name of the folder and of the theme, too.

Also, if you want your theme to display in Preferences -> Appearance, you need to create a new record for it first. It is in the same page. Then you should be able to see it in your BO and enable it.

As far as I know, there were many changes in PS from 1.4 to 1.5 and generally it is not recommended to try to update your theme, but rather to edit the default 1.5 theme to get the desired look (however, I am not saying it's impossible). So, I am afraid if your newly bought theme isn't 1.5 compatible, it won't work..

Thanks Silvie! I will download the default theme from the install package - thanks for thinking of that! The theme is 1.5.3 compatible, and I assume the problem is deeper as the default one wasn't working either. I'll switch it back to default after I install it and then people can see the problem.

Thanks!

Daniel

Daniel, I think the issue is caused by some of your modules (homeslider) and the pictures - they are larger than what can fit in the template. Best solution for you IMHO would be to open the site in google chrome and use the inspect element feature to see the size of each block and its CSS rules and edit your css...

Thanks for the help!,

I reverted back to the original Prestashop install, reinstalled the upgrade and made sure I used a small .jpg for a test logo and set the template to default before I upgraded. After the upgrade and the fixes I end up back at this http://thefullpantry.com.au which doesn't look much like the default template here http://doc.prestasho...e=1344416572000

The main concern is the missing menu bar accross the top!
