cyberd0g
Hi,I discovered PrestaShop last night. I uploaded and changed permissions of files and folders as instructed in the installation guide. I created a database and attempted an install but I keep getting an error message.... "Database server was not found. Please verify the login, password, and database server name fields."I have double checked the log-in info and have made sure that the db exist but I still have issues. the db is on localhost, I was wondering if I need to supply PrestaShop with an absolute hostname of the db????Please help if any of you have a solution for me, THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!!Danny. Patric
According to what you said me in PM, you specified "localhost" as your DB server."localhost" is generally the name used in local, on your computer, if you use softwares like Wamp or EasyPHP.But at a host, it is generally different. Your host must have provided the DB server name you have to use (by mail or in your host's admin panel).
cyberd0g
Hi Patric, thanks for you reply! The db is localhost at the hosting server side. It worked withj localhost but I found the problem is that PrestaShop requires NO MORE than 10 characters for the dbase name and dbase username, anymore than then characters courses the error.I found the solution when I was digging deeper into the forum for answers. Can PrestaTeam please do something about this as some hosting companies uses part of their client's domain name for the prefix of the dbase name. my hosting company usually uses 9 characters for the prefix, which restricts me to only adding one character more. example............. if my domain name is candyshop.com, my host will use candysho_ I find this to be a security risk if I can only add 1 character to the prefix, bad guys can easiely guess my dbase name.thank you,Danny. kavaXtreme
I can confirm this is an issue with MediaTemple hosting (8 reserved characters) and would also request a fix. At the very least, it would be helpful to have a message clarifying the limitation.
Patric
This is not a PrestaShop limitation.I posted this issue in the bug tracker.http://www.prestashop.com/bug_tracker/view/2321/
