Authorize.net creating duplicate orders...customers double charged

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

I'm having an extremely frustrating problem with auth.net. It's hard to say what's causing this but customers are placing orders and the order goes through twice, sometimes up to 3 or 4 times. It creates a new auth.net transaction id and a new invoice and cart number on each occasion.

I'm using prestashop 1.4.51. and Authorize.net AIM (Advanced Integration Method) v1.4.3 by PrestaShop

So I'm trying to figure out all the possible causes.

I know it's not that the customer is clicking submit twice - I've written a script that disables the submit button after 1 click to prevent a double submit.

I've got reason to believe there's a hiccup in guest checkout because 99% of the duplicate orders are from guests (with only 1 exception where a duplicate came from a registered user).

I know it could be something from the auth.net side too and it's not necessarily a coding issue...but it could be either one or both...

I also know it could be a user issue...one duplicate case: a client tried guest checkout and checked out but it seems he had reason to believe it didn't work...because a few minutes later he signs up for an account and becomes a registered user and puts the same order through again. I don't know if this was a customer error...but this is only a single case out of about 12...the others don't seem to follow that pattern but it does put my trail on the guest checkout...there may be a bug there somewhere...

I have a copy of the site and I'm using the auth.net sandbox on the copy...and I can't seem to get a duplicate order on the test site no matter how hard I try. (I don't have the freedom to do test purchases on the live site to try and replicate the issue....so I'm trying to replicate it on the test site in sandbox mode and it just doesn't happen...)

Basically, can I pick your brains on what is/isn't likely to cause this problem?

Thanks allot guys! :)

Try downgrading to 1.4.1 and see if the problem still persists. (module version) I don't remember what version it was released with, maybe 1.4.9. I had a similar problem with one version that every now and then it would charge a random amount. I don't remember what version it was though.

Have you tried contacting them about that? They offer pretty awesome support. I have used that module before, although, I don't remember what version I used. But any time I have ever had an issue with one of their modules I contact them and get pretty quick support.
