Upgrade from pre-RC 1.5.0.x to 1.5.3.1 - no front office loading

Hi, I've been working on getting an early non-production version of PS 1.5 to the latest stable version. I've run into some minor upgrade errors, but nothing critical. What I wind up with after upgrading to 1.5.3 is a fully functional BO and a FO that does not load any module positions. The header logo loads as well as the basic page structure does load however.

This is the case with the customized template I'm trying to use as well as the latest default template. I have dev mode enabled and no errors are being thrown. I tried diabling all the modules and many other recommended fixes. So far, I'm at a loss.

 

Anyone have suggestions? I'm thinking maybe a smarty issue, but I don't know where to start. The smarty console does not appear to provide any clues.

Are you using the latest Version :0.9.4 of One Click Upgrade?

Yes, I used One Click Upgrade 0.9.4 for the upgrade from 1.5.15 to 1.5.3.1. Before that I manually updated. Other items of note:

 

I'm using multi-shop, although I've tried diabling it with no change.
