Show only parent subcategories or show static subcats

I try to show subcategories all the time no matter what subcategories I enter from the parent category. When I enter a subcategory, the category_ID of that category become Primary, therefore the parent subcategories dissapear. I want to "toggle" between different subs with the same subcategories showing all the time. More like how layered navigation works.

 

But we have built a product filter that overrides the standard category controller, therefore Layered navigation wont work at this point.

 

Anyone having a idea how to get this function with some easy steps?

 

I have tried to modify Categorycontroller.php without any success.

 

I run version 1.4.
