Blank screen every other click?

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody, I wonder if you can help with an increasingly annoying problem I have.

When surfing on my new website, every other click will call a blank, white screen and the only way to move forward is to refresh the page which loads the page it should have done on the click.

It's becoming increasingly annoying, can anyone help?

Hi Site, thanks for your response.

I have tried different web browsers with the same problem.

I'm using Prestashop 1.5.3

I'm in the process of setting up the Smarty compile/cache but I don't know if I've done it correctly (there is an "!" next to it in the configuration list, as is next to "URL rewriting" and "Browser Cache and compression")

I'm using SEO friendly URLs.

Link is www.gallis.co.uk

Thank you for your help

I've done this but now there is a cross next to "Smarty optimization" in the configuration list.

I also get a 404 error when I go to a shortcode url e.g. www.gallis.co.uk/contact-us could this be a .htaccess problem?

I'm going to try it with 1.5.2 and see if that fixes anything.

I see the site works without friendly URL but with friendly URL only certain links work... can you confirm?

I'm a little confused with the whole friendly URL thing as sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't :(

Hi Site, thanks for your help earlier.

I have tried it on a 1.5.2 installation and I'm still getting the same blank screen so I don't think it's a theme issue.

I have also tried it on 1.5.3.1 and it's working the same on there.

I have noticed the site is incredibly slow and I haven't tinkered with any of the CCC settings yet. Is there anything else you can suggest?

hello...I was having a similar problem and tried a fix I read (buy now can't find for you!) by first going into my FTP, saving a copy of the current .htaccess, then deleting it. Then in your BO: Preferences > SEO & URLs > uncheck Friendly URL and Automatically redirect... > Save > then check both and save again. This will regenerate a .htacess file.

This seemed to do it for me...hopefully it helps you or points you in the right direction.

I'm not sure if this has any relevance but for some reason the product picture doesn't appear on the featured listings advert on the homepage either?

I have a funny feeling this has something to do with the .htaccess file.

Hi tdr170, thanks for your response.

I have tried to reset but no joy. Before I simply added the pictures as normal and it showed the image on the featured box. I can't understand what I'm doing wrong?

For some reason the Home features list the image link as 1-home_featured.jpg, this is incorrect I changed to 1-home_default.jpg and the image appears. (chrome dev tool)

Try going to preferences images and regenerating product images.

Also on this page you will see a list of images that are generated when you upload an image, here you will see home_default.

One other thing I notice is that the Nivo slider links point to pages that don't seem to exist.

One link is to product 12 but as far as I can see you only have 1.

One link points to category 5 but you seem to have only category 3.

@tdr170

Some of the SEO friendly urls worked and some didn't it seemed very odd - and for to do the same across 3 versions it seems like it may be a server setup issue.

Are there any errors in an error log?

Possibly, you may need to turn on some options in your PHP.ini such as.

I can edit my PHP.ini file myself but on some host it is not allowed.

Look for something like CGI and Scripted support language in your control panel here you should fing your error log and your PHP.ini file.

If you can not find it call your host and ask them to make these changes.

Under Advanced Parameters, Config info do you have green OK on both in check your config.

register_globals = Off

magic_quotes = Off

allow_url_fopen = On

Thanks for your help so far guys, apologies for the delay. I have now seemed to fixed the thumbnail issue by regenerating the images, a simple issue!

I'm now on with the blank screens. I host the site on my own VPS so I have full control over all aspects of the software that runs on it.

I seemed to remember that when I installed the software, there was a cross next to "Disable magic quotes" but I restarted my server with both Magic Quotes installed and not installed and the cross never changed. I wonder if there's something else that I need to do?

Yeah it's all well below the threshold so I have no idea what's going on. I'm going to try and populate some more products and see if that works.

I have a feeling it may have something to do with the theme pointing to areas of the site that haven't yet being created.

I have this exact same problem. When I'm working on adding categories or products its awful. I can't get to any pages without refreshing first. If I haven't worked on it for a while, for example I added products yesterday afternoon and just went to the site today, it works much better. Its not perfect, but its much better. I'm guessing it just takes time for the URLs to redirect correctly. I'm not too tech saavy, so I don't know the behind the scenes of what is going on, but I can tell you it is extremely frustrating. I'm hoping that once I'm done adding things to my site, it will work more smoothly. If anyone does have a fix for this, I'd like to know as well.

Could it be a simple conflict with the "apache multiviews" option in the SEO & URL BO? On my godaddy hosting, I have to Disable apache multiviews or I get blank pages.

The "Automatically redirect to Canonical URL" option also effects my new theme, with that option on I loose the customer info module. My cart block only worked on product pages till I disabled the apache multi views.

Finally getting back to this... When I go to the error log on Bluehost, I do see a number of things but I'm not sure how to interpret them. I copied and pasted the most recent error messages below:

Under Main Error Log:

[Mon Mar 11 07:44:01 2013] [error] [client 117.5.86.91] 451 (check_connect), referer: http://www.google.com.vn/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&sqi=2&ved=0CFAQFjAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Ftailieutonghop.com%2Ffree%2Fphan-tich-bai-chuyen-chuc-phan-su-den-tan-vien-cua-nguyen-du_f38-3896.html&ei=_t49Uf_bHOjamAWjk4GYDQ&usg=AFQjCNHhQrIDI543cve2abYCRx_utIvSng&bvm=bv.43287494,d.aGc

Under PHP error log:

[13-Feb-2013 16:27:08] PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Link to database cannot be established: SQLSTATE[42000] [1203] User createby_prs4 already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections thrown in /home2/createby/public_html/classes/db/DbPDO.php on line 58

and
