Disadvantage of sharing customers (multistore)

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of modifying the authorization feature of Prestashop, wherein multiple shops can share customers even when shops are not within the same group. For example, when a customer logs in the default shop, after checking out his cart he can go to the next shop without the need to relogin again. More convenient for the customers, I think.

My question is, will that pose any security or any other threat to my shops? As of now I can't think of any, but I want to know the point of view of PS experts first before I dive into the codes.

And btw, if I am to start editing my shop, is there any method that I can use so that I dont need to edit the core codes?

One issue I have with the sharing of customers is this case. Say you own an electronics shop called abc-electronics.com and I buy something from there. Then I land on your abc-sportinggoods.com site. Say I don't know that you own it too and I want to buy something, I try to create an account with my email address. I get an error message and I bounce.

That's what I want to avoid, so instead of requiring the customer to login or register again,I will automatically have him logged in if the customerbis already logged in another shop that I own.

Carts will not be shared, only the login credentials. Should I do that?

It depends on how you are doing the sites basically. Something like how envato does, I think it would work. If there is no affiliation between the sites it will confuse the users. Cookies only last so long and only work for one browser on one machine.
