Database differences between 1.4.9 and 1.5.2

I've found that the following path leads to a 1.5.2 shop with broken theme:

 

Upgrading from 1.4.9 to 1.5.2 on the same machine.

 

I've found that doing a fresh install of 1.5.2 on a different server runs fine...until I import the database from the 1.4.9 machine.

 

In this case, I get an empty shop with only the logo and footer. No menus, no products, etc.

 

This seems to point at an incompatibility between the 1.4.9 database schema and the 1.5.2 schema.

 

Does anyone know if this is the case and, if so, is there a migration strategy to successfully bring the 1.4.9 data into a 1.5.2 installation?

 

I'm going to try Navicat to compare the two databases .. but I can see already the 1.4.9 database has 255 tables .. and the 1.5.2 has 235 (if I recall the exact latter number).

 

Any help appreciated.

I should have pointed out that all products, categories, etc. show up in the backoffice in both cases .. either the upgrade on the same machine or the import of the 1.4.9. database to the fresh 1.5.2 install on another server.

 

It seems to be a theme problem..whether default or custom .. somehow related to database differences in the two versions of prestashop.
