cityfox
Hi guys I have been told by some people that Prestashop is only recommended for sites with a few hundred products. Is this true? I want to set up a website that has 1000+ products and I'm not sure whether to go down the Prestashop route because of what I've been told. Thanks
Dh42
It starts to slow down after a few hundred thousand products, but most shops will do that.
vekia
in my opinion prestashop is the best software to handle 1000+ products, you can find out here or in internet many success-stories where shop owners handle 1000+ products in presta
Carolina Custom Designs
Whoever told you that didn't know what they were talking about. PS is certainly able to handle 1,000+ products. Most of our current clients have well over 1,000 products in their catalog. In fact, our latest client has a little over 86,000 products. PrestaShop will be a great choice for you. Good luck. mediaxpress
Can someone tell me which is the best way to upload 1000 products? Via .csv file? What about the images?
rturner
I've got about 2000 products and the site is extremely fast, but I'm using version 1.4.10 (available on the prestashop site). I have a couple smaller stores on 1.5.3 and it seems slower, so I haven't upgraded my large shop, ymmv. As far as importing, I haven't tried it, but found a link: http://www.webnethosting.net/kb/importing-data-into-prestashop/ There's a field for images, so I assume you would ftp your images up and use that URL. My products needed so many different attributes that I was leery of importing a csv file.
knitworks
my products also have a lot of attributes. how are you uploading yours?
rturner
Unfortunately, each one listed by hand. I haven't been all that successful at importing data.
Dolke
Well this question is quite good. It seems that Prestashop can handle much more product but hosting platform should be considered with great care. I have Prestashop store with just a little over 3000 products and I had and still have huge problem when I import, export, update, rebuild index of my products. Import is not working with CSV files that contain more then 50-70 products, and I need to click several times (because timeout on the server or some other problem I dont know yet) in order to rebuild index of my images or products. I solve most of the problems below with the 3rd party software called Store Manager for Prestashop which is basicaly desktop aplication used to manage product from desktop enviroment rather then working in the backend. Then I recently discovered some other problems that include basic search functionality of the prestashop. It is working very slow, it gives me 500 internal server errors always when more then 2 visitors search for something on my front end in the same time... I got suggestion that problem lies in the shared server and hosting provider but they reported me back with some other observations. You can take a look at this topic here. http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/266349-hostgator-shared-server-and-prestashop-1541-whos-side-is-the-issue/
