Normail thickbox image size in kb?

Hi all,

 

 

I have added about 800 product photos in my store and everything seems to work perfectly fine. All images has been edited in Photoshop with exact size 600x600 px and 72 DPI.

 

Those are then saved as Jpegs on quality 9 so that final size becomes around 100 kb per picture. I have then zipped all pictures (6 per product) and added them backoffice. The front picture is a PNG one and about 300 kb.

 

Today when I backed up my FTP I noted that the picture folder was very large and when investigating further I noted that the ones with "thickbox" prefix was 1400 kb each?!

 

This can't be good/normal right?

Why is that and how to fix?
