Get variables from template to controller

Hi,

 

maybe I'm just missing something, but how can you get access to the variables from html objects used in template. For example I would like to show to user a search box (searching throw product attributes) and I would like to get which options he chooses or which checkbox is checked ect.

by clicking on button. Is there a way? I guess it has to done by javascript or posibly by link, but I don't know if the POST method is good way.

 

And second question, how could you achive, that the search result will appear on my own page (defined by my template). Has I somewhere defined this page?
