Setting multiple shops URL

Recommended Posts

We are experimenting the multiple shops feature on Prestashop but we have trouble setting up the URL for the second store.

We have two stores:

http://47diamonddistrict.com/prestashop -> This one is working fine

http://naturalfacet.com/prestashop -> We are not able to set the URL for that one

I read on others post that we need to point the domain to the same root folder as the other domain and Prestashop will take care of the rest (we added the URL in Prestashop multistore setting). But is it possible to point a sub-folder domain to another domain subfolder, like in our case.

For now we cannot use the root domain (naturalfacet.com) to point to the other shop because a website is already active there.

Any ideas?

Domain root, or a sub folder does not matter. Enter the sub folder address and it will work.

However make sure you understand the settings and the consequences of adding an already running shop to the multi store if you have any items/customers/orders etc in that second store.

Good luck!

So are you saying we Lose customers and order history can we create a new second shop and import these in to the database as I was under the impression we could run 2 existing shops and just share products and quantities.

I have created a new second shop enter the sub folder of my second domain and still it does not work.. How does it connect products?

When you are adding a second, third... etc store you decide whether to share some aspects of the main store (e.g. customers). Then when you are running in multi-store mode you decide whether a specific operation you perform applies in a single shop context, a group context or for all stores.

Regardless of how you initially setup the secondary stores (shared, non-shared) and regardless of which context you perform an operation post setup, all the data is kept in one database created during the setup of the main store. So, for example, in a non customer shared setup, a customer account created using the first store is marked in relevant table as being associated with the first store, and a customer account created using second store is marked in the same table as being associated with the second store (technically, slightly different but that is the gist of it). "One [database] to rule them all", as a PrestaShop blog post puts it.

Now taking into account what I said above, think about how you can integrate an already existing store's data into that one database. You cannot, not unless you are painstakingly reconstructing every single table row by row manually (merging old, single store database and new multi-store database. Still would be only partial success, e.g. customer passwords would not work). There are a lot of chicken-egg problems with converting two previously-running-in-single-mode stores to multi-store setup. Multi-store functionality is most useful when you planned your stores and are starting from scratch with all of them to be a part of the multi-store setup. You setup a new store, turn on multi-store mode, add additional stores, configure individual and common settings, and then populate individual and common inventory as required. That is the only viable way I can see it working.

I am still struggling with this. I have tried many options but still need clarification.

Second store. Say it is to be a new store and share products. Say it has it own name and domain name. When it is google searched and click I don't want the address at the top to have any reference to the original store ( shop 1 ) name.

So do if I have the second domain name on the same root. With no files then obviously it produces an error. So do I duplicate shop 1 includes database and put it in under second shop URL. As you can see the whole pointing thing has me stumped. As if I have files in the sub domain it is not interaction with shop 1 and theme and products. Shouldn't be this hard. I have read and re read set up and it in just not clear..
